Question:
Tuesday's Daily Mail had an article about a new contact lens that is
designed for constant day & night wear for 30 days. The article
focussed on one guy who'd been trialling them for some months, and he
stated that he wore them constantly, and they were so comfortable and
convenient that sometimes he began to forget he was myopic. The
breakthrough is apparently the way that the lens material has been
created to have the comfort of a soft lens, but have superior oxygen
permeability; greatly reducing the risk of infections. The article also
stated that the lenses are available now.
Anyone else have any more information?
Answer:
I myself have just sampled my 1st pair of extended wear contacts,
supposedly they are the best on the market, according to my OD, but I think
the best is whatever works for you (trial & error). I have worn them now
for 1 month to test and see if they are better than my Bausch & Lomb Optima
FW dasily wear's and my answer is definetly YES, here is why:
1. 4x more Oxygen permeable, thus making them more comfortable to wear
(regardless of what many people think that comfort only strictly comes from
how lubricated your eyes are)
2. They are made so that you can wear over night but I don't see why anyone
would want to & besides I'm not to convinced (neither is my OD who also
wears them) that is healthy for your eyes regardless of a dramtic increase
in Oxygen Perm. I have however slept with them overnight (by accident) and
woke next day with absolutlely no headaches, the contact was not extremely
dry on the eyes as my FW's were when this happened.....this is a
bonus.....b/c if your ever stuck somewhere you don't have your lens case &
solution you don't have to get scared.
3. Far more comfort & this means way less headaches & not seeing blurry on
your 12th or 14th hour of wearing them.
4. Myself have found seeing a little better.
