Question:
Oakley type prescription glasses: I'm leaning in this direction
though having to buy prescription models greatly increases their cost.
The price for prescription glasses with a single set of lenses is
approximately $350.00 and approximately $550 for two sets of lenses.
Anyone have experience with Oakley glasses? Which lenses do you prefer
for bright sunny conditions, overcast days, night riding? Are the
ventilated models effective in eliminating tearing and fogging?
Answer:
Right now I'm leaning toward the Bolle or Oakley sunglasses, probably with a
light gray tint. From what I read the gray tent is most color neutral so
trees look green and sky looks blue, but the tint does relieve eye strain in
moderately bright conditions. My next stop is to take my prescription to
the local Lenscrafter's to see if they can fix me up with a Bolle Edge or
similar at a reasonable price.
One possible issue remains though. The Oakley representative gave me a
sells spill on the benefit of their glasses: Superior low distortion at all
angles, a prescription lens bonded to the tinted sunglasses which they say
reduces distortion and eliminates fogging between the sunglass element and
the prescription lens of the Bolle. Is this hype or have you Bolle wearers
experienced fogging between the two elements? I'd like to save money with
the Bolle's and I like the versatility of being able to transfer the
prescription lens to a couple of different sunglass tints, say a low light
tint and a bright light tint.
