Question:
We will be visiting Italy for 2 weeks in April of 2004. One of the
things I would like to do while there is to shop for new glasses as I
love the quality and style available in Europe. I bought my last pair
in Paris, and was able to have my prescription filled overnight, even
with transitional lenses. (Yes, I did have my script with me.) I was
wondering if anyone knew if this is feasible in Italy as well, and if
so, which city they might recommend to shop in. (Our itinery is not
yet set in stone!)
I am aware that my glasses will be more expensive there, but I really
had a great experience with my Paris glasses and am willing to pay
more for something I can't get in the states.
Do you know about Prescription Eye Glasses Lens?
Answer:
I wear glasses, and so I have my prescription lenses made in Italy. I
usually address the Pisacchi optical shop in via della Condotta,
Florence (few steps off Piazza della Signoria). Usually ordering a lens
made to specifications needs a few days. Not a cheap place, but they are
serving my whole family since decades. Buying the frames without the
lenses may be a good idea (maybe ask your optician if they can put
lenses in frames you may provide).
