Question:
I'm thinking about some new glasses since mine are scracthed pretty bad and
very annoying. I work in dusty conditions at work and i suspect its from me
wiping off my lenses with the dust still on it. they are susposed to be
scratch resistant lenses and have a anti reflective coat. Im wondering if
this is the coating starting to scratch off? I dont see any real world
difference with the coating except making the lenses scratch easier.
I was thinking about getting a new pair and keeping the junk glasses for at
work. Or should I just use the new ones and be careful not to wipe them off
without rinseing the dust first? occasionally i get hit in the face with
boxes and have broken a pair of titanium frames. Are these the sturdiest you
can get without going into flex frames? I was told the flex frames are
usually larger but I prefer small ones. As for my lenses I will just get the
thinnest most scratch resistant available for a reasonal price.
Where should I shop for new glasses? we have pearl vision, lens crafters,
shopko, walmart, and im sure some other places I havent though of yet. my
insurance covers some but I still want the place with the best deal.
thanks in advace and please forgive me for any grammar or spelling errors. I
was in a hurry when I wrote this. Any suggestion about Titanium Eye Glasses?
Answer:
I have found Costco to be the best for glasses. They have great
frames, unbeatable service and low prices. The thing you want to look for
in a frame is first off see where they are made. This may be a gross
generalization but I am pretty critical of quality and have noticed that any
frames made in Taiwan or Indonesia are going to be crap. They may look good
but the quality just isn't there. What you want to look for are ones made
in Japan, France or Germany. The more industrialized countries are going to
be producing the better product. With glasses this is very important
because they are so small and light. If I were you I would get a pair of
titanium, flex frames. Flex frames used to be larger but they have gotten
it down to where they are very inconspicuous and sturdy. I have a titanium
wire flex frame that you can't tell the flex joints are there. Skip the
anti reflective coating unless you do a lot of night driving. It scratches
plus you can't use antibacterial soap or it gets a film on it. Real pain
since most hand soaps are now antibacterial. Get yourself an old cotton
diaper or
very clean piece of cotton material that you only use for your glasses.
Only clean them in soap and water and use nothing but your cotton cloth.
Never use a paper towel. You might as well use a stick. In a pinch you can
use the hem of a clean T-shirt. I am very rough on glasses and after a year
my lenses and frames still look new. I also always have a safe place to set
them when I take them off and never set them lenses down.
