Question:
I am planning my first triathlon shortly. I am practically blind with
out my glasses. I don't wear contacts either. What suggestions do you
have. Can I have someone standing by when I exot the water to hand me
my glasses? Any other ideas? Any suggestion about Transition Eye Glasses?
Answer:
I am also extremely nearsighted and would have difficulty finding the
transition area without visual assistance. I would suggest that you check your
local swim shop for corrective goggles (Speedo and Water Gear make them - I'm
sure there are other companies as well) They won't be perfect
optically(strengths in .5 increments) but should be close enough to help you
navigate in the swim. They run about $20-25. When you get out of the water,
leave the goggles on until you're close enough to your transition spot to take
them off. Until this year, I wore my regular glasses for the bike and run - I
put them in a glasses case and then tucked that in a biking shoe in transition.
Hope this helps.
