Question:
I wonder why so many people try to remake Vision as a straight
machine/computer. He was made from the original Human Torch. That's
in canon now, even though some writers tried to get rid of it. The
original Human Torch has a human life, his name is James Hammond,
right? No one tries to make him a straight machine. Heck, they made a
new Human Torch for the New Invaders storyline, right? Or was she not
an android? So why do they keep trying to make Vision a pure computer?
Answer:
Because in a world where everyone's got special abilities and superpowers,
making Vision more human removes his only distinguishing characteristic. Who
does it matter to that Jim Hammond happens to be an android? If he walks,
talks, and acts 100% human (and he does, down to his southern accent), so
what if he's an android? What does him being an android mean to the writer
looking for creative ways to use him? Nothing. For all intents and purposes,
he's just another Johnny Storm.
Vision has nothing special about him EXCEPT the fact that he's a synthoid,
which is why writers keep playing off that aspect. Even the ones that like
him humanized only seem to play off his synthoid nature.
