Question:
I recently moved to Raleigh, NC and my employer offers vision care via
VSP (Vision Service Plan). I am planning to have a general eye exam in
the next few weeks, so I obtained a list of VSP member doctors in the
state. What is the best way to go about choosing from this list? Ideally
I would like to talk to or meet with several prospective doctors before
I go in for an examination. Is it best to call and request a brief
conversation or to make an appointment to talk with them in person? I
don't want to take a lot of their time, but it is important for me to
meet with them in order to best select someone I am comfortable with.
If you are an eyecare doctor and have any advice in this regard, such as
how you might handle a similar request from one of your prospective
patients, please let me know. Any advice about Vsp Vision Care?
Answer:
You pose an interesting question. I am an optometrist and a VSP
provider. Here are my thoughts on your query:
To begin, I'd look for a referral from someone at your place of work
who is familiar with the docs on the VSP list.
Regarding interviewing a potential practitioner: I do, on occasion,
receive calls from prospective patients who want to gain an
understanding about what services I provide and how I might interact
with them. Most of the time, my office manager fields the questions
and generally this satisfies the caller. (If the "front desk person" is
knowledgeable and easy to relate to, it's reasonable to assume that
the practitioner desires or helps promote that feeling in his/her
office.)
